Friends of the Cat Mission Statement

Friends of the Cat (FOTC) is a charity organisation founded in 1991, is run by a network of volunteers and aims to alleviate the plight of the countless thousands of homeless, abused, neglected and abandoned cats in the Gauteng region and beyond.

Friends of the Cat is a pro-life organisation, and as a matter of policy will not destroy a healthy animal. Euthanasia, as performed by a veterinarian, is only considered an option if the animal is suffering and/or the prospect of a full  recovery is poor.

Services rendered by Friends of the Cat

The removal of feral cats from areas where they are threatened, rehabilitating these cats where necessary. Arranging for the sterilisation of feral cats, veterinary treatment for the sick or injured and returning healthy cats to their original territory in order to establish stable colonies.

The fostering of abandoned, abused or unwanted cats and kittens. Providing their sterilisation and inoculations, their rehabilitation where needed and rehoming of cats to approved homes.

Providing social support to the elderly and indigent, by obtaining reduced rates for veterinary services where possible, and taking care of their beloved pet when they are unable to continue doing so. Increasing the awareness of the public, through education and publicity, to its responsibility towards the animals with which it shares the environment.

Funding is derived from donations from the public and supporters of the organisation, from donations from people who choose to adopt a cat or kitten through FOTC and from the sale by volunteers of various goods and crafts at exhibitions.

As this organisation is entirely dependent on the financial support of members of the public, any assistance you may be able to give to FOTC would be greatly appreciated.
